Importance of Keywords

I’ve mentioned before the value of using keywords in your post title and sprinkled within your content. This helps both readers and search engines know what your topic is about. Although I know a number of marketers who stress finding a number of keywords on your chosen niche and writing a post on each of them, I’ve never really done it. But I’m beginning to realize that although it is a lot more work, the results are well worth the effort.

A friend of mine in the sunny south and her husband started a website just over two years ago on the topic of Front Porches. They spent time to research every possible keyword and keyword phrase for the topic and wrote about each of them. By the end of the first year, they had over 250 pages of quality content on their site. Currently, the site has over 400 pages and is considered an authority site. Now they have readers contribute as well, which means more web pages. In a blog, each post is considered a separate page.

If you’d like to read more about how Mary and David took their website to an authority site in such a short time, her story is available on Lynn Terry’s Clicknewz site. Then get started making a list of the important keywords and keyword phrases that you can write about on your own site. Not sure where to start? Use the Google Wheel or Google’s Analytics tool to see what people are searching for related to your topic and what supporting keywords Google suggests.
